RGE<\/a> has been actively involved in raising the environmental awareness of students in China through outreach programmes such as\u00a0the “Little Electricity Generator” and \u201cLittle Paper Maker\u201d. RGE Founder and Chairman Sukanto Tanoto<\/a> strongly believes that a company can only be successful if it is a responsible corporate citizen. Guided by his principle<\/a> that business should be conducted in a manner that is good for the community, good for the country and good for the company, each of the businesses in RGE takes its corporate social responsibility (CSR) seriously.<\/p>\n

Volunteers from East Asia Power Xiamen (EAP), which is part of RGE\u2019s Pacific Oil & Gas<\/a> group of companies, launched the “Little Electricity Generator” environmental education program in a primary school in Xiang’an District of Xiamen City, China. The students are first introduced to the basics of electricity, where they also gained an understanding of EAP\u2019s clean power generation technology. In the next part of the program, the students get to be hands-on in assembling a mini- \u201cgas-steam” generator model under the guidance of volunteers. This became the highlight of the program as cheers ring out across the classroom when the students successfully light up the bulb of the mini-generators. The students are able to experience the fun of exploring science through hands-on experiments and to understand how clean energy contributes to the protection of the environment. \"EAP<\/a>Over in two other provinces of China, volunteers from Asia Symbol<\/a> brought the \u201cLittle Paper Maker\u201d program to students in Rizhao and Xinhui. The students are given an insight into the paper-making process, which is one of the four great inventions in ancient China. The volunteers also shared that the students can also play a part to protect the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling paper. Using the \u201cLittle Paper Maker\u201d model, the students get to experience the fun process of turning waste into new paper, through tearing up the waste paper, pulping, coating the pulp, forming a shape, pressing, and drying.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
