{"id":5779,"date":"2014-06-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-25T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rgei-2.hellopomelo.space\/uncategorized\/tanoto-foundation-gives-scholarships-to-nus-medicine-students\/"},"modified":"2024-06-05T12:14:13","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T04:14:13","slug":"tanoto-foundation-gives-scholarships-to-nus-medicine-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rgei-2.hellopomelo.space\/id\/rge-updates-and-latest-news-from-the-group\/tanoto-foundation-gives-scholarships-to-nus-medicine-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanoto Foundation Gives Scholarships to NUS Medicine Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mr <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sukantotanoto.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sukanto Tanoto<\/a>, entrepreneur and founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rgei.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RGE<\/a>, established the Tanoto Scholarship Fund through an endowed gift by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tanotofoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tanoto Foundation<\/a> to help needy undergraduate medical students with their tuition fees to pursue their education in the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.<\/p>\n<h2>Making a difference<\/h2>\n<p>In the words of Mr Sukanto Tanoto and his wife, Mrs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tanotofoundation.org\/tinah-bingei-tanoto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinah Bingei Tanoto<\/a>: \u201cAll people should have the opportunity to reach their full potential\u2026 Making a difference in people\u2019s lives is, perhaps, the most satisfying thing one can do.\u201d Both Mr and Mrs Tanoto\u00a0had to leave high school before graduation in order to support their families and their businesses. They founded the Tanoto Foundation together in 2001, to reduce hardship and break the cycle of inter-generational poverty through education, empowerment and enhancement programs. In the field of education, the Tanoto Foundation provides scholarships to students and helps them to fulfill their dreams of receiving a high-quality education.<\/p>\n<h2>Tanoto Scholarship Fund<\/h2>\n<p>The Tanoto Scholarship Fund will support NUS undergraduate medical students in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine throughout their study. One of the scholars, Faith Leong, is able to study medicine without any financial worries. She can now\u00a0fully concentrate on her\u00a0studies\u00a0and\u00a0pursue her lifelong calling to be a doctor. &#8220;I am immensely grateful for all the financial aid that I have received thus far and will definitely be willing to give back to others who require similar aid in the future,&#8221; she says. Faith believes that medicine is not just a job, but a calling. During an attachment in pre-university, she was inspired by the level of care and effort that a cancer doctor made for his patients. During a power outage, he climbed 10 flights of stairs to personally retrieve heat-sensitive chemotherapy drugs and store them properly. &#8220;He showed me the standard of care and ethics I would want to provide for my patients in the future as a professional,&#8221; she shares.<\/p>\n<h2>Tanoto Foundation<\/h2>\n<p>Tanoto Foundation is a non-profit organisation established in 2001 by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tanotofoundation.org\/en\/sukanto-tanoto-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sukanto Tanoto<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sukantotanoto.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his<\/a> family, whose philanthropy dates back to 1981.
