Tanoto Foundation<\/a> launched a series of corporate social responsibility (CSR) lectures at Fudan University on April 24, 2016. The lectures aim\u00a0to help raise the quality\u00a0and standard of CSR courses in the university\u00a0for the benefit of\u00a0CSR\u00a0professionals in China.<\/p>\n

CSR Programmes for CSR Professionals<\/h2>\n

As more enterprises in China adopt and incorporate corporate social responsibility strategies\u00a0into their business operations, the availability of CSR courses\u00a0in institutes of higher learning will help enhance social responsibility\u00a0practices in the country.<\/p>\n

Modelled on the ISO 26000 definition of social responsibility, this series of lectures is\u00a0jointly organised by Tanoto Foundation, Fudan University<\/a> Management School, and the Institute of Oriental Management.<\/p>\n

Tanoto Foundation CSR Courses\u00a0<\/h2>\n

RGE China Senior Sustainability Manager Gary Gao emphasises the importance of CSR courses in China and how they can elevate CSR professional standards in the country.<\/p><\/div>\n

Tanoto Foundation\u2019s representative and RGE <\/a>China Senior Sustainability Manager Gary Gao, said: \u201cCorporate social responsibility<\/a> has developed very quickly in China in the last 10 years with the number of CSR reports increasing from 36 in 2006 to 2,400 in 2015. There is increasing demand from enterprises for professional CSR managers. However, most of business schools in China have yet to offer courses on corporate social responsibility. These Tanoto Foundation CSR lectures are designed to meet this challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also present at the ceremony were\u00a0Prof. Su Yong, Dean of Department of Business Administration of Fudan University Management School, Ms Wu Wanlin, Director of Development Affairs Office, Ms Dai Ninghong, Deputy Director of MBA Program and Assistant Prof. Zheng Qinqin, Deputy Dean of Department of Business Administration from Fudan University Management School and over 200 MBA students.<\/p>\n

Ms Wu Wanlin said, \u201cMBA students should not only learn business rules and practices, but more importantly adopt and apply social responsibility, so they can be part of the next good crop of CSR professionals.\u201d<\/p>\n

First CSR Lecture at Fudan University<\/h2>\n

\"Students<\/a>After a brief launch ceremony, Prof. Su Yong gave the first lecture to over 200 MBA students, titled “Value and Concept of CSR”. It covered four aspects: Concept of business ethics; new developments in business ethics against the backdrop of globalisation; business ethics principles and practices; and how enterprises should implement corporate social responsibility programmes. The session ended after a 30-minute Q&A.<\/p>\n

The MBA students said they learnt a lot from the lecture and expressed their appreciation of Fudan University as a forward-looking institution.<\/p>\n

About Tanoto Foundation CSR Lectures<\/h2>\n

Course participants listen attentively at the second Tanoto Foundation CSR Lecture.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Tanoto Foundation CSR Lectures comprise a total\u00a0four lectures. The other\u00a0three lectures are (1) Integration of CSR into Business Strategy, (2) Responsibility of Respecting Human Rights: Global Agenda and Enterprise Challenge and (3) CSR and Innovation. Experts will be invited to give the lectures.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The lectures are modelled on “social responsibility” as defined by\u00a0ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Responsibility, an\u00a0international standard developed to help organisations effectively\u00a0integrate\u00a0social responsibility into their business.<\/p>\n

According to ISO 26000, an organisation should address seven\u00a0core subjects: Organisational governance, human rights, labour practices, the environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues and community involvement and development. The Tanoto Foundation CSR lectures will cover some of these subjects.<\/p>\n
