Its Indonesian operations PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (PT RAPP) opened its Kerinci Tissue Culture Laboratory on 1 September 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Inaugurated by guest-of-honour Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Prof H Muhammad Nasir, the USD 5 million Kerinci Tissue Culture Laboratory seeks to optimise and accelerate eucalyptus seedling production for efficient and effective large-scale planting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We\u2019re welcoming Mohamad Nasir, Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, to inaugurate <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RAPP_Official?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RAPP_Official<\/a>\u2019s USD 5 million Kerinci Tissue Culture Laboratory, which will produce 36 million seedlings a year for our <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/sustainable?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#sustainable<\/a> plantations. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mwJ8t2IEr8\">pic.twitter.com\/mwJ8t2IEr8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 APRIL Pulp and Paper (@APRILpulp) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/APRILpulp\/status\/1168055470168240128?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 1, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>R&amp;D Ready<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rgei-2.hellopomelo.space\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/APRIL-Kerinci-Tissue-Cultue-Lab-Inauguration.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8814 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/rgei-2.hellopomelo.space\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/APRIL-Kerinci-Tissue-Cultue-Lab-Inauguration-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"APRIL Group opens Kerinci Tissue Culture Lab\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>Tissue culture is an integral part of APRIL\u2019s state-of-the-art research and development (R&amp;D) facility. A strong team of 125 researchers supports this R&amp;D effort, continuously seeking to develop fast-growing superior seeds that are also pest and disease resistant, and possess wood properties suitable for the industry. These are crucial for a world-class company whose nurseries can produce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aprilasia.com\/en\/sustainability\/plantation-management\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">200 million seedlings every year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Director of Operations Support at PT RAPP Ali Shabri explained that the role of the Kerinci Tissue Culture Laboratory is to clone and multiply high performing genetic material, so as to support a more effective and efficient harvesting. The lab has 16 growth room facilities which produce as many as 36 million eucalyptus seeds a year.<\/p>\n<p>APRIL\u2019s continuous R&amp;D efforts have begun to show favourable results, advancing the company\u2019s agenda for quality, productive and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aprildialog.com\/en\/2019\/07\/10\/advancing-sustainably-april-group-releases-2018-sustainability-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainable agriculture<\/a>. It has made successful breakthroughs in optimising plantation area, increasing the mean annual increment of its Acacia mangnium plants from 22 cubic metres per hectare annually in 1996 to 32 cubic metres per hectare annually in 2010. The pulp and paper producer now seeks to raise this figure to 35 cubic metres.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Embedded post\" src=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/embed\/feed\/update\/urn:li:share:6578100372974473216\" width=\"100%\" height=\"521\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 100%; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Sustainable Development for a Sustainable Future<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to enhancing APRIL&#8217;s R&amp;D pursuit, the opening of the Kerinci Tissue Culture Laboratory is expected to play a pivotal role in the company&#8217;s commitment to supporting and realising its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aprildialog.com\/en\/2019\/05\/29\/april-prioritises-sdgs-for-long-term-sustainable-impact-in-indonesia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">prioritised Sustainable Development Goals<\/a>, which include core goals such as Goal 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption).
