The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC)<\/a> is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative that calls on companies to align strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and take actions that advance societal goals. UNGC represents a global movement of over 9,500 companies from across 160 countries to drive change across all aspects of corporate sustainability.<\/p>\n

Leading pulp and paper producer APRIL Group<\/a> was among a select number of member companies featured in a UNGC video series on how the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) are incorporated into their business operations. The video<\/a> provides an overview of how its sustainability commitments, especially its one-for-one commitment, help the company to advance the SDGs in the communities in which it operates.<\/p>\n

As a UNGC member, APRIL also plays a part in contributing to the UNGC’s multi-year strategy of driving business awareness and action in support of achieving the SDGs<\/a> by 2030. The company already aligns its sustainability strategy with UNGC’s Ten Principles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the video, APRIL Chairman Bey Soo Khiang<\/a>, explains that while APRIL’s commitments stem from the company’s 5C’s operations principle of doing good for the community, country, climate, customer and company, the efforts and results related to its prioritised SDGs are grounded in meeting the needs of its communities and stakeholders.<\/p>\n

The UNGC provides a platform for members such as APRIL to learn and also contribute ideas, experiences and knowledge to help shape other companies’ sustainability roadmap, inspire other companies, and support wider climate change mitigation efforts such as reducing carbon emissions. He encouraged companies that are not already part of the global compact to join it.<\/p>\n
