Belinda Tanoto<\/a>, Managing Director, RGE<\/a>, recently attended the 2023 Shanghai Forum for Young Chinese Entrepreneurs on 5th<\/sup> November 2023, delivering a keynote speech. She was joined by Ms Dong Yiwen, Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government; and Mr Yu Jianming, First-Class Inspector of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council.<\/p>\n

During her keynote address, Ms Tanoto highlighted the significant achievements of the “Belt and Road” initiative over the past decade. This initiative has brought substantial development opportunities to numerous Chinese individuals and businesses operating abroad, including RGE. As a multinational corporation, RGE capitalised on this initiative, leveraging the advantages of locating its industrial chain within the “Belt and Road” region. This strategic positioning enabled RGE to efficiently manage resources and expand its operations across multiple sectors in China, encompassing high-grade paper, high-quality fiber manufacturing, oleochemicals, and clean energy.<\/p>\n

Ms Tanoto expressed her perspective on the collaborative nature of the “Belt and Road” initiative, emphasising that overseas Chinese and Chinese-funded enterprises should play a more active role, not merely as participants and beneficiaries but as contributors to the initiative. She underlined RGE’s aspiration to serve as “a bridge within a bridge” in this context. In line with this commitment, she noted RGE\u2019s donation of RMB 100 million during the 2016 Boao Forum for Asia. This contribution was aimed at supporting talent development programmes within the “Belt and Road” region.<\/p>\n

“Looking ahead, RGE hopes to work with our range of industry stakeholders to promote collaboration for the \u2018Belt and Road\u2019 initiative, and to promote knowledge exchange and mutual learning between China and foreign countries. I believe that in the next 10 years, the \u2018Belt and Road\u2019 initiative will achieve even greater success,” she said.<\/p>\n

Ms Dong Yiwen, Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, emphasised the significance of the Shanghai Forum for Ethnic Chinese Young Entrepreneurs. She highlighted the forum’s role in supporting Shanghai’s position as a pioneer in China’s global engagement, linking the country with the global community. Shanghai, as a crucial national strategic hub, sees this forum as a means to spotlight the strengths and distinctive attributes of the new generation of ethnic Chinese entrepreneurs. It serves as a practical platform to effectively engage overseas Chinese, utilising their connections to attract and guide them, enabling a focus on core objectives that benefit the overall landscape. Ms Dong expressed anticipation for the forum to establish an environment that fosters mutual benefits and inclusivity.<\/p>\n

Hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, the forum is an official event of the 40th<\/sup> China International Import Expo. The forum was attended by more than 200 participants, including young Chinese entrepreneurs, foreign China-based companies and associations, as well as representatives from Shanghai Young Entrepreneurs, leaders, experts and academics from nearly 40 countries and regions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
