This is to be achieved by the implementation of best practices in the social, environmental and economic domains.<\/p>\n<h2>About the RGE Forestry, Fibre, Pulp &amp; Paper Sustainability Framework<\/h2>\n<p>The Sustainability Framework is guided by RGE Founder and Chairman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rgei.com\/about\/our-leadership\/sukanto-tanoto\">Sukanto Tanoto<\/a>\u2019s business philosophy of doing what is <em>good for the country, good for the community and good for the company<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4960\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rgei-2.hellopomelo.space\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/RGE-Sustainability-Framework.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4960\" class=\"wp-image-4960\" src=\"https:\/\/rgei-2.hellopomelo.space\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/RGE-Sustainability-Framework-300x284.png\" alt=\"RGE Sustainability Framework\" width=\"250\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4960\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">RGE Sustainability Framework. Available at: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rgei.com\/files\/rge-sustainability-framework.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.rgei.com\/files\/rge-sustainability-framework.pdf<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The key commitments in the Sustainability Framework include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensuring no deforestation in our supply chain<\/li>\n<li>Adopting the best operational practices in our plantations especially in the peatland, while protecting the forest the plantations surrounds<\/li>\n<li>Respecting the rights of the indigenous peoples and providing proactive support to the local communities surrounding our operating locations<\/li>\n<li>Upholding responsible practices in our work places by providing a safe, productive and conducive work environment where employees can contribute and advance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Past, Existing and Renewed Efforts in Sustainability Commitment: Asian Agri &amp; Apical<\/h2>\n<p>The Sustainability Framework builds on past and existing commitments.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2014, both Asian Agri and Apical signed the Sustainable Palm Oil Manifesto (SPOM),\u00a0which\u00a0commits its signatories to no deforestation in High Carbon Stock (HCS) forest areas, creating traceable and transparent supply chains, and protecting peatlands, once HCS areas have been defined by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carbonstockstudy.com\/Home\">High Carbon Stock Study<\/a>. The standards in SPOM are higher than \u2013 and in addition to \u2013 those set by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sustainablepalmoil.org\/standards-certfication\/certification-schemes\/the-roundtable-on-sustainable-palm-oil-rspo\/\">Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.asianagri.com\/\">Asian Agri<\/a> is also a signatory in the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil Pledge (IPOP). IPOP was first established in September 2014 by Kadin (Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry) as an agreement among leading palm oil producers in Indonesia to improve environmental stewardship and build partnerships with key stakeholders to engage the Indonesian government on policy-making. This commitment to IPOP means 60% of the global palm oil supply will be deforestation-free.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apicalgroup.com\/\">Apical<\/a> signed the <a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom.unfccc.int\/nature-s-role\/un-climate-summit-forests\/\">New York Declaration on Forests<\/a> in 2014. The New York Declaration on Forests is a pledge made by governments, multinational companies and campaigners to halt the loss of the world\u2019s natural forests by 2030. Its approach to landscape conservation is outcome-driven. With <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aprilasia.com\/en\/sustainability\/sustainability-policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SFMP 2.0<\/a>, it seeks to balance sustainable production forestry with conservation and landscape protection.<\/p>\n<p>The previous SFMP 1.0 included the unprecedented aim to have one hectare conserved for every plantation hectare. APRIL Group has today achieved 70% of that goal.<\/p>\n<p>15 years ago, APRIL Group was first to implement a &#8216;chain of custody&#8217; system to ensure no illegal wood entered its mills. It was also first to voluntarily adopt conservation assessments to protect rainforests within its land concessions in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, ten years after pioneering the adoption of High Conservation Value assessments, APRIL Group has conserved 250,000 ha in its concession areas. It also started eco-restoration projects on another 70,000 ha of previously degraded land.<\/p>\n<p>Adopting the best and most relevant standards and measures have also ensured APRIL Group\u2019s dutiful commitment to sustainability.
