Tanoto Foundation<\/a> organised its annual Project Sukacita<\/a> Dec 7 to 11, 2015 to reach out and help the community.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>

The Project Sukacita<\/a> team helped children in the childcare centre better understand health and nutrition.<\/p><\/div>\n

Together in Community Service<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In its fourth edition, Project Sukacita saw undergraduates comprising 17 Tanoto Scholars from Singapore and Indonesia, and four volunteers join forces in the spirit of community service.<\/p>\n

The National University of Singapore medical students in the contingent conducted health screenings and learning sessions to raise overall awareness on health, hygiene and nutrition. They also handed out toothbrushing kits to local preschoolers to encourage good oral hygiene practices.<\/p>\n

The group helped out with spring cleaning and painting the walls of the childcare centres. They also conducted English and art and craft lessons for the children.<\/p>\n

The group comprised Tanoto Foundation scholars from various universities in Singapore (NUS<\/a>, NTU<\/a>, SMU<\/a>) and Indonesia (UI<\/a>, ITB<\/a>, UGM<\/a>, IPB<\/a>).<\/p>\n

History of Project Sukacita<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Project Sukacita is a yearly programme that provides community service in less privileged segments of Pangkalan Kerinci, a town in which RGE business groups APRIL Group<\/a> and Asian Agri<\/a> have operations.<\/p>\n

Project Sukacita aims to help raise the standard and quality of life of Kerinci residents through a cleaner environment, improved public health awareness and emphasis on early education for local children.<\/p>\n

The programme gathers volunteers within and outside the Tanoto Scholar community, providing them the exposure to development issues faced in rural communities.<\/p>\n

\"Encouraging<\/a>

Encouraging the young to adopt good habits in general and dental hygiene.<\/p><\/div>\n

Tanoto Foundation<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Tanoto Foundation creates opportunities for youth volunteers to contribute to the enhancement of the quality of life in the less privileged segments of society.<\/p>\n

Programmes like Project Sukacita provide the character and team building opportunities for participants, while supporting its beneficiaries with education campaigns and resources.<\/p>\n

Tanoto Foundation continues to imbue in its scholars a sense of responsibility and belonging in the community, to constantly and proactively leverage one\u2019s abilities and privileges to help others. It hopes to continue develop newer generations of responsible and engaged citizens who are sensitive to development and sustainability<\/a> matters at the national and regional levels.<\/p>\n

Education and Empowerment<\/h2>\n

These\u00a0activities represent Tanoto Foundation founder Sukanto Tanoto<\/a> and his<\/a> family’s contributions\u00a0to the communities near RGE business groups’ operation areas.<\/p>\n

Despite enjoying pioneering success in the plywood and forestry industry, Mr Sukanto Tanoto through Tanoto\u00a0Foundation continues to support programmes to alleviate poverty and raise living standards in these communities. For someone who was unable\u00a0to complete his education due to financial difficulties, he now empowers the young through education and platforms like Project Sukacita to pay it forward and help the young(er) and the less privileged.<\/p>\n
