APRIL Group, one of the largest, most technologically advanced and efficient makers of pulp and paper products in the world,\u00a0released its 2017 Sustainability Report<\/a>\u00a0in Nov 2018.<\/p>\n

Themed “Empowering Development”, the Report covers the progress and challenges in implementing economic, environmental and social responsibilities in the group\u2019s operations in Indonesia, where its manufacturing, industrial forest plantations, conservation and restoration areas are located. It also documents ongoing efforts at aligning with the United Nation\u2019s Sustainable Development Goals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The ninth edition since 2002 – and also the first yearly report following a series of biennial publications – the annual Sustainability Report marks APRIL\u2019s commitment to continued improvement in monitoring, reporting and verification. The Report is informed by APRIL\u2019s Sustainable Forest Management Policy<\/a> reporting indicators, data and related assurance findings, and its structure is guided by the Global Reporting Initiative<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Adopting a science-based approach: A tower that measures emissions and air quality.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Report highlights APRIL\u2019s progress in adopting a more robust, long-term and science-based approach to peatland management, as well as its broader commitment to the production-protection<\/a> model in Riau. As per the Report, APRIL is also working closely with the Independent Peat Expert Working Group (IPEWG)<\/a>, a group with extensive expertise in peatland dynamics, and other stakeholders on the development of a vision for peatland, which delivers a balance of production, protection, restoration and social benefits.<\/p>\n

APRIL\u2019s sustainability report also covers a wide variety of multi-stakeholder and expert-guided work on the management of peatland, emissions, fire prevention, restoration, conservation, renewable energy use, community development, enterprise development, and operations safety. The comprehensive Report is backed by case studies and data.<\/p>\n

In the Report\u2019s foreword, APRIL Group President<\/a> Praveen Singhavi says:<\/p>\n
