Learning and development at RGE

Growing people, growing careers

Learning and development is central to our mission to improve lives while developing resources sustainably. At Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) you’ll have the chance to grow your skills and your career through on the job exposure, classroom learning, and partnerships with some of the world’s leading universities.

We take a 70-20-10 approach to development. 70 per cent of learning comes from on the ground exposure – opportunities to experience different parts of our business and learn by doing. 20 per cent of development comes from dedicated coaching and mentoring – learning from experienced mentors who help guide your personal and professional growth. 10 per cent comes from structured training programmes both in our in-house Learning Institutes and at leading academic institutions around the world.

All employees at RGE have a tailor-made Individual Development Plan which matches your career goals with business needs to provide on the job exposure, potential rotations, mentoring and classroom learning.

We’re committed to developing our people with the skills to thrive in the bioeconomy, at all levels, all around the world.

What training does RGE offer for fresh graduates?

All of our business groups offer structured training programmes for fresh graduates, combining classroom learning with real-world exposure and the chance to grow your skills in the field.

Our graduate trainee programmes are designed to give you the skills you need to succeed in your future career, while providing exposure to different teams and functions to learn about our industries and discover where your passion lies.

While our business groups are generally open to graduates from most disciplines, we also partner with universities to teach specific skills to undergraduates, such as the Tanoto Forestry Information Centre at Indonesia’s Bogor Agricultural University.

RGE’s graduate trainee programmes cover a wide range of technical and operational skills, including sustainable forestry, LEAN manufacturing, and logistics and supply chain management. We also offer structured programmes in law, finance and human resources for graduates in relevant disciplines.

Learning programmes

What learning and development does RGE offer for executives and experienced professionals?

RGE’s business groups offer a wide range of learning and development programmes designed to enhance the skills of experienced professionals, helping you advance your career, take on new responsibilities, and prepare for more senior leadership positions.

Management Development Programme

Junior-level managers can be nominated for our Management Development Programme (MDP), where candidates from Singapore, Indonesia, and China attend courses at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Brazilian candidates attend courses at the International School of Economics (ISE).

These courses help to prepare future leaders with leadership capabilities in human capital, cross-functional and cross-cultural management, change management, negotiation, and operational excellence.

Executive Development Programme

The Executive Development Programme (EDP) prepares senior managers for higher-level leadership positons within RGE. Over the course of the programme, candidates spend three weeks at INSEAD in Singapore, where experienced professors deliver in-depth courses on strategy and leadership.

Graduates of the EDP are equipped with leadership and management skills for group-level directorships with a global purview.

Executive Enrichment

Continuous improvement is one of our core values, and one that extends to our executive management team.

As part of our partnership with leading institutions, international experts from schools such as Harvard, Northwestern, Kellogg, Chicago Booth, and Stanford University are invited to RGE to speak to our senior leaders on areas that impact our businesses and the communities we serve – from AI, the economy, to global environmental issues.

ASPiRE

The APRIL Sustainability Professional Readiness Program (ASPiRE) is an 18-month accelerated talent development programme designed to recruit and train individuals who have a passion and belief that doing good is good business.

The programme is open to recent Master’s graduates and offers training and mentorship in areas including forestry, peatland science and R&D.

RGE’s Learning Institutes

We’ve built in-house Learning Institutes in the heart of our operations around the world, helping us equip our people with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed and thrive. Our Learning Institutes enable us to teach tailor-made programmes, sharing knowledge of best practices from our more than 55 years in business.

Every year our Learning Institutes give training to thousands of staff around the world, providing more than one million training hours in 2024.
