The RGE legal department has clinched a series of legal industry awards and accolades over the past three years. In 2022, RGE Legal was placed as one of Asia’s Top 15 In-House Teams by Thomson Reuters’ Asian Legal Business (ALB) in May and as one of Singapore’s Top [15] In-House Teams in July.
These awards follow RGE Chief Legal Officer Rose Kong being recognized by the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association as Chief Legal Officer of the Year in 2021 (Singapore Company/Business Category). She was also a Finalist for General Counsel of the Year at the inaugural ALB Women in Law Award 2021. (Read more here)
In addition, RGE Legal was named In-House Community (IHC) Asia’s Energy & Natural Resources Team of the Year 2021. The team was also a finalist in the IHC In-House Best Practice Award for Technology Integration category.
In 2020, RGE Legal won the ALB South East Asia Energy & Resources In-House Team of the Year 2020 award and placed among ALB Singapore’s Top 12 In-House Teams 2020. (Read more here)
Bracell’s São Paulo mill is now the world’s largest and greenest dissolving pulp mill.
Founded by entrepreneur Sukanto Tanoto, RGE is a global group of resource-based manufacturing companies producing sustainable products. RGE group has been in expansion mode in Asia and the rest of the world. Most recently, RGE invested R$8 billion to expand its dissolving pulp mill in São Paulo, Brazil. It also acquired Pacific Canbriam in Alberta, Canada.
RGE Legal is deeply involved in the group’s expansion. As an illustration, RGE Legal was involved in securing over US$1.5 billion in sustainability-linked loans for RGE’s fibre operations and palm oil operations.
With a global team of more than 100, RGE Legal has rolled out digital transformation projects that include bespoke legal technology systems that optimise its management of legal matters, contracts and licenses. In parallel, RGE Legal also advised on the roll-out of various digital transformation projects across the group’s mill, plantation and port operations.
